A Microbiologist in a spices manufacturing company is responsible for ensuring that spices and spice products are safe, hygienic, and free from harmful microorganisms. - Perform microbial analysis on:
- Raw spices
- Finished products
- Water samples
- Air and environmental samples
- Test for:
- Total Plate Count (TPC)
- Yeast & Mold
- Coliforms
- E. coli
- Salmonella
- Bacillus species Quality Assurance
- Ensure products meet:
- Food safety standards
- Export regulations
- Customer specifications
- Support implementation of:
- HACCP
- GMP
- ISO 22000
- FSSAI standards Laboratory Management
- Maintain microbiology lab equipment
- Prepare culture media and reagents
- Maintain laboratory records and reports
- Calibrate instruments and ensure cleanliness Hygiene & Sanitation Monitoring
- Monitor factory hygiene practices
- Conduct environmental swab testing
- Verify cleaning and sanitation effectiveness Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare reports for audits and inspections
- Maintain SOPs and test records
- Assist during customer or regulatory audits Investigation & Corrective Actions
- Identify contamination sources
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Work with production and QA teams to improve processes Skills Required
- Knowledge of food microbiology
- Laboratory techniques and aseptic handling
- Understanding of HACCP, GMP, ISO standards
- Attention to detail
- Documentation and reporting skills
- Basic computer and MS Office knowledge Educational Qualification Usually required:
- B.Sc / M.Sc in:
- Microbiology
- Food Technology
- Biotechnology
- Life Sciences Preferred:
- Experience in food or spice industry
