Description
Engagement Type: Consulting / Contract (Project-based) Duration: 3–6 months (with extension based on project phases) Commitment: Full time equivalent during active project phases About the Engagement We're bringing in a Robotics Automation Consultant to lead a focused industrial automation project — converting a currently manual production process into a robotic workflow. This is a project-based engagement where you'll own the technical thinking from feasibility through deployment, working alongside our internal team and the client's plant engineers. Ideal for an independent consultant or boutique automation specialist who has done this before, knows where projects typically fail, and can move fast without hand-holding. Scope of Engagement Phase 1 — Process Study & Feasibility (2–3 weeks)
- Spend time on the shop floor observing the current manual process — cycle times, operator movements, defect patterns, throughput bottlenecks.
- Deliver a feasibility report covering automation potential, ROI estimates, and a recommended robotic approach. Phase 2 — Solution Design (3–4 weeks)
- Specify robot type (6-axis, SCARA, cobot, delta), end-effector design, fixturing, vision requirements, safety architecture, and cell layout.
- Produce BOM, vendor shortlist, and capex estimate.
- Deliver layout drawings, cycle-time simulations (RobotStudio / RoboGuide / KUKA.Sim), and a technical specification document. Phase 3 — Integration & Deployment (8–12 weeks)
- Oversee or hands-on execute robot programming (ABB RAPID, KUKA KRL, Fanuc TP, UR Script, or equivalent).
- Integrate machine vision (Cognex, Keyence, or custom OpenCV), PLC logic, and communication with existing MES/ERP.
- Run FAT and SAT, validate against baseline cycle times, handle commissioning. Phase 4 — Handover & Stabilization (2–3 weeks)
- Train operators and maintenance staff.
- Document the system end-to-end.
- Provide post-deployment support window for issue resolution. What We Expect You to Bring
- 7+ years of hands-on industrial robotics experience with proven deployments in real production environments — not lab work.
- Strong command of at least two major robot platforms (ABB / Fanuc / KUKA / Yaskawa / UR).
- Solid grip on robot kinematics, payload/reach analysis, EOAT design, and cycle-time optimization.
- Machine vision integration experience — from camera selection to lighting to inspection logic.
- PLC programming and fluency with industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, OPC-UA).
- Working knowledge of safety standards (ISO 10218, ISO/TS 15066 for cobots) and ability to design compliant cells.
- Comfortable reading and producing mechanical/electrical drawings.
- Track record of at least 3 industrial automation projects taken from concept to production handover. Preferred Background
- Independent consultant or principal of a small systems integration practice.
- Prior projects in auto components, pharma, electronics, FMCG, or precision manufacturing.
- Exposure to ROS / ROS 2, digital twins, or AI-driven inspection is a plus.
- Comfortable working with a lean cross-functional team and reporting directly to founders. Engagement Terms
- Compensation: Project-based fee or monthly retainer — open to discussion based on scope and prior rate card.
- Equipment & Travel: Covered by us for client site visits.
- IP & Confidentiality: Standard NDA and IP assignment for project deliverables.
- Mode of Work: Hybrid — on-site during process study, integration, and commissioning; remote during design and documentation phases. Apply on Kit Job: kitjob.in/job/4lxtjb
