Role & responsibilities Plan, supervise, and monitor all deep excavation and earthwork activities in compliance with project safety standards and statutory regulations. Ensure secure excavation practices during trenching, grading, backfilling, leveling, and underground utility work activities. Conduct site inspections before excavation to identify underground utilities, pipelines, cables, drainage systems, and other hidden hazards. Verify excavation permits, work method statements, and risk assessments before commencement of excavation activities. Ensure proper implementation of shoring, shielding, sloping, benching, and trench support systems to prevent soil collapse and cave-ins. Monitor soil conditions, groundwater levels, vibration impact, and excavation stability throughout the work process. Ensure safe operation and movement of heavy earthmoving equipment such as excavators, loaders, dumpers, compactors, and cranes near excavation areas. Maintain protected access and egress arrangements including ladders, ramps, barricading, and warning signage around excavation zones. Ensure implementation of Permit to Work (PTW) systems for deep excavation and confined excavation activities. Conduct Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for excavation and earthwork activities. Monitor dewatering operations and ensure adequate control measures to avoid flooding and soil instability. Coordinate with civil, construction, utility, and EHS teams to ensure smooth and protected execution of excavation activities. Conduct toolbox talks and safety awareness programs related to excavation hazards, equipment safety, and emergency response. Investigate excavation-related incidents, near misses, soil collapse events, and unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions. Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, IS codes, client safety procedures, and excavation safety guidelines. Maintain records related to excavation inspections, permits, soil reports, equipment inspections, and safety documentation.
