Software Development Manager, Developer experience Department: Cloud Engineering Employment Type: Full Time Location: India
- Resident (0008) Reporting To: Brent Reeves Description Vena is looking for a Software Development Manager, Developer Experience (DevEx) Engineering to join our SaaS Technology and Operations (STO) team, based in our Indore, India office. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineering leader who is passionate about improving how software is built through modern developer tooling, platform engineering, and AI-assisted development practices. You will play a key role in executing Vena’s Developer Experience strategy by delivering high-impact tooling, automation, and workflow improvements that enhance developer productivity and software quality. As part of the global DevEx team, you will act as an extension of the Canada-based leadership team while owning the DevEx function in Indore. You will be responsible for both leading the existing team and scaling it, while building strong partnerships with local Product & Development leadership. Key Responsibilities Partner with the Senior Manager, Developer Experience and the Sr. Director of STO & Strategic Initiatives to execute on a GenAI-first Developer Experience strategy, translating vision into actionable plans and deliverables. Drive the implementation and adoption of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, internal AI agents), ensuring they are effectively integrated into developer workflows. Deliver and operate components of Vena’s internal developer platform, including CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, and automation frameworks. Act as the DevEx leader in the Indore office, with full ownership of the local team including mentorship, performance management, and hiring. Build solid relationships with local Product & Development leadership, acting as a trusted partner to identify friction points and improve the developer experience. Collaborate closely with global DevEx counterparts to ensure consistency in tooling, workflows, and platform capabilities across regions. Support the rollout and enforcement of engineering guardrails, including compliance automation, security integrations, and PR workflows. Contribute to improving developer productivity and delivery efficiency, leveraging metrics such as DORA and cycle time to guide improvements. Drive predictable, high-quality execution, ensuring team deliverables align with broader DevEx priorities and timelines. Stay current with emerging trends in Developer Experience and AI-driven development, contributing ideas and improvements to the broader team. Skills, Knowledge & Expertise 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Software Engineering, or related roles. 2+ years of experience in a leadership or team lead capacity, including people management and hiring responsibilities. Demonstrated experience building and scaling engineering teams, including hiring, onboarding, and developing talent. Strong understanding of CI/CD systems, developer tooling, and platform engineering fundamentals. Experience working with or adopting AI-assisted development tools in a practical engineering environment. Ability to execute against a defined technical strategy, translating direction into tangible outcomes. Solid programming and software engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) and modern development workflows. Familiarity with developer productivity metrics (e.g., DORA) is an asset.
