Slitting Machine Operator (Gummidipoondi)

Job Summary: SMPC Industries is seeking an experienced Slitting Machine Operator to handle steel coil slitting operations with high precision and safety. The candidate will be responsible for machine setup, coil handling, quality control, and ensuring adherence to production plans and specifications. Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate the steel coil slitting machine as per work orders and production schedules.
- Perform size changeover activities including cutter and spacer arrangement.
- Load and unload coils using EOT cranes safely.
- Adjust slitting knives and tooling to achieve required widths and tolerances.
- Verify coil details (width, thickness, grade, coil number) before slitting as per plan.
- Monitor machine operations and identify any abnormalities or defects during slitting.
- Perform quality checks (width, burr, camber, edge condition) after recoiling.
- Stop operations immediately in case of non-conformity in coil or process.
- Maintain accurate coil identification, traceability, and slitting reports.
- Change slitting cutters and maintain proper condition of tooling (spacers, separators).
- Ensure proper loading of correct coils and avoid any mix-up or traceability errors.
- Maintain stock of spares such as cutters and separator spacers.
- Follow all defined SOPs, safety guidelines, and PPE requirements.
- Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness in the slitting area.
- Support basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance activities.
- Coordinate effectively with supervisors, quality, and dispatch teams. Key Performance Expectations:
- Zero mix-up in coil traceability
- Zero tolerance for quality deviations
- Zero accidents in slitting operations
- Adherence to production schedules and output targets Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum ITI / Diploma (preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in slitting line operations (sheet metal / steel coils).
- Strong knowledge of slitting process, tooling setup, and coil handling.
- Familiarity with measurement tools and quality parameters.
- Ability to identify defects and take corrective actions quickly.
- Good understanding of safety practices in heavy material handling.
- Physically fit and capable of working in a shop-floor environment. Work Timing (Rotational Shifts – 8 Hours):
- Shift 1: 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- Shift 2: 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM
