Purchase / Store – Steel Structure (Purchase Officer / …, Guwahati

We are looking for a responsible and detail-oriented Purchase Officer / Store In‑charge to manage procurement, inventory, material tracking, and store operations for steel structure and PEB projects. The role will ensure timely availability of materials, proper stock control, vendor coordination, and smooth support to fabrication and site execution teams. Key Responsibilities
- Handle purchase of steel materials, consumables, fasteners, welding items, paints, and fabrication-related accessories.
- Maintain inventory records for raw materials, finished items, and site dispatch materials.
- Prepare purchase indents, compare quotations, and follow up with vendors for timely delivery.
- Coordinate with fabrication, project, and site teams for material requirements.
- Check received materials against purchase orders, challans, and specifications.
- Maintain proper stock register, inward/outward records, and issue registers.
- Ensure safe storage, labeling, and stacking of steel materials in the store.
- Monitor material movement between factory, site, and vendor locations.
- Assist in cost control by sourcing materials at competitive rates without compromising quality.
- Report stock status, shortages, and pending purchases to management regularly. Required Qualification
- Degree in any relevant discipline, preferably in Commerce.
- Candidates with experience in steel structure, fabrication, PEB, or construction material purchase/store management will be preferred. Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in purchase or store management preferred.
- Experience in steel fabrication, industrial construction, or PEB projects will be an advantage. Skills Required
- Knowledge of steel materials, fabrication consumables, and construction inventory.
- Positive negotiation and vendor follow-up skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and stock control.
- Basic understanding of purchase orders, challans, invoices, and material reconciliation.
- Strong Excel and documentation skills.
- Good communication and coordination abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple material requirements. Preferred Candidate Profile
- Honest, organized, and proactive.
- Should have practical knowledge of steel structure materials and store handling.
- Familiar with factory/store operations and material issue systems.
- Able to support both purchase and store functions efficiently. Work Environment
- Factory/store-based role with coordination across fabrication yard and project sites.
- May require occasional travel for material collection, vendor visits, or site support. Reporting To
