Job Description: Industrial Engineer for Leather Factory Department: Industrial Engineering / Production Location: Kasba, Kolkata Reporting To: Production Manager / Factory Head / Operations Head Salary: 25k to 30k as per experience, expertise, and industry standards Job Summary: a) The Industrial Engineer for Leather Factory will be responsible for analysing the outturn of Individual workers and how to improve production and efficiency in Production & Packing department. b) The role involves conducting time and motion studies, setting production targets, monitoring efficiency, reducing wastage, improving operational methods, and implementing productivity improvement techniques to ensure maximum utilization of resources while maintaining quality and delivery standards. c) The ideal candidate should possess strong knowledge of leather manufacturing processes and industrial engineering practices within export-oriented production environments. Key Responsibilities: 1. Production Efficiency & Productivity Improvement
- Monitor and improve production efficiency across all manufacturing departments.
- Analyze production flow and identify bottlenecks affecting productivity.
- Implement productivity improvement initiatives to achieve higher operational efficiency.
- Develop methods to reduce idle time, rejection, rework, and production delays.
- Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, machines, and factory resources. 2. Time & Motion Study
- Conduct time studies and motion studies for various production operations.
- Establish Standard Minute Values (SMV) for leather bags, wallets, belts, and SLG products.
- Analyze operation breakdown and improve production methods.
- Monitor operator performance and identify opportunities for skill improvement.
- Develop operation bulletins and process flow charts. 3. Line Balancing & Capacity Planning:
- Perform line balancing to achieve smooth workflow and balanced workload distribution.
- Calculate production capacity and manpower requirements based on order quantity and shipment schedules.
- Ensure proper allocation of operators and machines for maximum efficiency.
- Support production planning teams in capacity utilization and production scheduling. 4. Process Improvement & Cost Control:
- Study existing production methods and implement process improvements.
- Reduce operational costs through improved methods and workflow optimization.
- Minimize material wastage and improve production output.
- Recommend layout improvements for better space utilization and production flow.
- Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives. 5. Production Monitoring & Reporting:
- Monitor daily production performance and efficiency reports.
- Prepare and maintain:
- Efficiency reports
- Production analysis reports
- Capacity reports
- Manpower utilization reports
- Line performance reports
- Present improvement plans and production analysis to management. 6. Coordination & Communication:
- Coordinate closely with:
- Production Department
- Quality Department
- Merchandising Team
- Planning Department
- HR Department
- Maintenance Team
- Support production teams in achieving shipment targets and productivity goals.
- Conduct regular meetings with supervisors and line leaders regarding efficiency improvement. 7. Training & Workforce Development:
- Train supervisors and operators on improved work methods and productivity techniques.
- Guide production teams regarding process standardization and efficiency improvement.
- Support skill development initiatives for operators and line staff. Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of industrial engineering concepts and manufacturing processes.
- Valuable understanding of leather bags, wallets, belts, and SLG production operations.
- Expertise in time study, motion study, SMV calculation, and line balancing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and productivity improvement techniques.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and production analysis reporting.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines. Educational Qualification:
- Diploma/Degree in Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, Leather Technology, or related field preferred.
- IE certification or production management training will be an added advantage. Experience Required:
- Minimum 5–6 years of experience as Industrial Engineer in leather goods or manufacturing industry.
- Experience in export-oriented leather manufacturing units preferred. Age Criteria: Preferred age below 45 years. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
