Job Description: Physical Education Coach Primary & Secondary Grade – Hamari Shala Program, Ashraya Location: Yerwada, Pune Our Vision Improving the lives and shaping the futures of vulnerable children in Pune, India by advancing educational opportunities, nurturing holistic development, and building healthy, empowered communities. I. Background Ashraya’s integrated program model is designed to meet immediate, individual-level needs while also providing scope for long-term growth and community development. We work with denotified and notified tribal groups at Yerwada. Since 2005, AIC has enrolled and supported the education of hundreds of out-of-school children from the streets and slums. II. Position Summary Hamari Shala Program is a schooling program under the NIOS board. At AIC, we focus on holistic child development through experiential and project-based learning approaches. This is a full-time position. The Physical Education Coach will work closely with the Education Program Lead and be responsible for planning and implementing structured physical education sessions for primary and secondary students. The coach will promote physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and overall well-being of students. The role includes organizing sports activities, fitness routines, skill-building sessions, and school events, while ensuring safety and inclusion. The program aims to support the holistic development of children — physically, emotionally, and socially. The coach is expected to contribute to a school culture that is active, joyful, purposeful, and inclusive. III. Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct structured physical education classes for primary and secondary grades.
- Bridge gaps in physical fitness, motor skills, coordination, and sports exposure among students.
- Develop age-appropriate fitness routines, games, drills, and sports activities.
- Encourage teamwork, leadership, discipline, and sportsmanship.
- Promote healthy lifestyle habits and awareness about nutrition, hygiene, and fitness.
- Ensure student safety during all physical activities.
- Adapt activities for children with varying physical abilities and needs.
- Maintain attendance records and monitor participation levels.
- Supervise students during sports sessions, breaks, and outdoor activities.
- Organize intra-school sports events, competitions, annual sports day, and activity-based events.
- Support participation in external sports events or community tournaments when applicable.
- Maintain and manage sports equipment responsibly.
- Conduct basti visits when required and contribute to student portfolios.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development workshops.
- Collaborate with teachers and counsellors to support students requiring behavioral or emotional guidance.
- Prepare bi-annual progress reports reflecting students’ physical development and participation.
- Actively participate in organizational programs and community events. IV. Desired Candidate Profile
- Fluency in Hindi (required) and basic working knowledge of English.
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education (B.P.Ed./M.P.Ed.) or relevant qualification preferred.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in coaching or teaching physical education.
- Experience working with children from under-resourced communities preferred.
- Strong classroom and group management skills.
- Creative and adaptable approach to conducting activities (especially in limited space settings).
- Knowledge of basic fitness training, team sports, and child development.
- First aid knowledge preferred.
- Good communication, leadership, and motivational skills.
