Job Title: Project Controls PM / BI Delivery Lead – Oil & Gas Industry Location: Remote Industry: Oil & Gas Employment Type: Contract 2 hire Job Summary We are looking for an experienced Project Controls PM / BI Delivery Lead who can bridge the gap between Project Controls, Capital Project Management, and Business Intelligence reporting within the Oil & Gas industry. This is not a traditional day-to-day Project Management role. The ideal candidate must have a solid understanding of Project Controls concepts, capital project budgeting, earned value management, forecasting, and reporting analytics, along with advanced Power BI expertise. The candidate will work closely with PMO teams, finance stakeholders, and project leadership to build reporting frameworks, dashboards, forecasting models, and executive-level project insights. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions for large-scale capital projects.
- Understand and interpret Project Controls metrics including CPI, SPI, cost variance, schedule variance, and forecast-to-complete models.
- Analyze project performance against approved cost and schedule baselines.
- Support PMO and leadership teams with budgeting, forecasting, and project performance analytics.
- Build and maintain reporting around:
- Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
- Earned Value Management (EVM)
- S-Curves
- Estimate at Completion (EAC)
- Forecast-to-Complete
- Cost & Schedule Variance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including finance, operations, and project delivery stakeholders.
- Translate complex project data into actionable executive insights.
- Ensure reporting accuracy and alignment with enterprise project governance standards. Required Skills
- Strong experience with Power BI and enterprise reporting.
- Solid understanding of Project Controls methodologies.
- Experience working with:
- Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
- Baselines and project tracking
- Earned Value concepts (CPI/SPI)
- Cost & Schedule Variance analysis
- Forecasting and Estimate at Completion (EAC)
- S-Curve reporting
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Preferred Qualifications The client is looking for candidates with at least 2–3 of the following:
- PMO experience supporting capital projects and budgeting (not limited to Data/BI projects)
- Subject Matter Expertise within the Oil & Gas industry
- Experience with PeopleSoft Financials / Project Costing
- Experience with Microsoft Project Server / Project Online
- Exposure to enterprise project governance and reporting frameworks Important Concepts Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) Hierarchical decomposition of total project scope into manageable work packages and control accounts. Baselines Approved cost and schedule references used to measure project performance. Earned Value Management (EVM) Industry-standard methodology measuring actual work completed against planned budget and schedule. Cost Performance Index (CPI) Measures cost efficiency of project execution. Schedule Variance & Cost Variance Quantifiable gaps between planned and actual project performance. S-Curves Graphical representation of cumulative cost or labor hours over time to monitor project lifecycle progression. Forecast-to-Complete / Estimate at Completion (EAC) Techniques used to estimate remaining cost and timeline required to complete the project. Experience Required
- 8+ years of experience in Project Controls, PMO Analytics, or BI Reporting
- Prior experience in Oil & Gas, EPC, Energy, or Capital Projects environments preferred
- Strong exposure to enterprise-level reporting and executive dashboards Nice to Have
- PMP certification
- Experience with Primavera P6
