Hydrologist (Noida)

Role & responsibilities Hydrological Analysis and Modeling
- Develop, calibrate, and run hydrological and hydrodynamic models for flood forecasting and water resource assessment
- Analyze rainfall-runoff processes and river basin dynamics
- Support development of basin-scale and localized hydrological models Flood Forecasting and Early Warning
- Generate flood forecasts and outlooks based on meteorological inputs and hydrological models
- Support development of flood thresholds and warning levels
- Contribute to impact-based flood forecasting and early action protocols Data Integration and DSS Support
- Integrate hydrological data and model outputs into decision support systems
- Support development of flood risk layers, inundation maps, and hydrological indicators
- Collaborate with GIS, AI/ML, and development teams to operationalize hydrological outputs Model Integration and Optimization
- Integrate meteorological forecasts (e.g., NWP, ensemble rainfall forecasts) into hydrological models
- Evaluate and improve model performance through calibration and validation
- Integrate pre and post data correction methods where necessary
- Support real-time forecasting system development and automation Visualization and Mapping
- Develop flood maps, inundation scenarios, and river basin visualizations
- Support creation of interactive dashboards for flood monitoring and decision-making
- Contribute to visualization of uncertainty and risk levels Capacity Building and Stakeholder Engagement
- Conduct training for NMHSs, river basin authorities, and stakeholders on hydrological modeling and forecasting
- Provide technical guidance for operational flood forecasting systems
- Participate in workshops, simulations, and system implementation activities Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare technical documentation, model reports, and forecasting guidelines
- Maintain records of forecasts, model outputs, and validation results
- Contribute to project reports and knowledge products Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor in line with project needs and priorities. Deliverables:
- Operational hydrological models and calibrated forecasting systems
- Flood forecasts, advisories, and inundation maps
- Integration of hydrological outputs into DSS platforms
- Model calibration and validation reports
- Technical documentation and training materials
- Periodic progress reports aligned with project timelines Preferred candidate profile Education:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in hydrological analysis, flood forecasting, or water resources management
- Experience with hydrological and hydraulic models (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWAT, MIKE suite, or similar tools)
- Experience working with rainfall-runoff modeling and river basin analysis
- Familiarity with hydrometeorological data (rainfall, river discharge, water levels, soil moisture)
- Experience integrating meteorological inputs (e.g., NWP forecasts) into hydrological models
- Familiarity with flood forecasting systems and early warning mechanisms
- Experience working with NMHSs, river basin authorities, or disaster management agencies is an advantage Technical Skills (Desirable):
- Experience with GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) for watershed analysis and flood mapping
- Programming skills (Python, R) for hydrological modeling and automation
- Familiarity with ensemble forecasting and uncertainty analysis
- Knowledge of reservoir operations and flood routing
- Experience with real-time data systems and DSS integration Personal Qualities:
