The role focuses on the design and coordination of electrical systems associated with highways and public infrastructure, working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including dedicated lighting design teams. The incumbent will be responsible for undertaking electrical engineering design activities related to power supply, distribution, and associated infrastructure for projects such as the Strategic Road Network, local authority roads, public realm developments, and transport hubs. The role requires close collaboration with UK-based engineers and stakeholders to deliver coordinated, safe, and compliant design solutions. In addition, the role will support the planning and design of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, including assessment of electrical network capacity, selection of appropriate charging solutions, and integration into existing highway and public realm environments, ensuring compliance with industry guidance and evolving technologies. Key Responsibilities This role is for an Electrical Design Engineer within the Intelligent Infrastructure team, supporting the delivery of electrical infrastructure for highways, public realm, transport, and EV charging projects. Undertake electrical design activities including: + Low voltage (LV) distribution systems + Feeder pillars and cabinet design + Cable sizing, routing, and protection + Earthing and bonding design + Electrical load assessments and supply coordination Deliver design outputs in accordance with relevant UK standards and regulations (e.g., BS 7671, Electricity at Work Regulations) and project requirements. Support the planning and design of EV charging infrastructure, including: + Assessing charging requirements based on location and user profiles (on-street, workplace, destination, and en-route charging) + Reviewing existing electrical networks for spare capacity and feasibility + Supporting the selection of appropriate EV charging technologies and configurations + Assisting in the integration of EV infrastructure within highways and public realm schemes + Considering accessibility and compliance requirements Develop a clear understanding of project scope and ensure timely delivery of electrical design packages across schemes such as: + Motorways and All-Purpose Trunk Roads + Local Authority roads and residential routes + Public realm and town centre developments + Transport interchanges and hubs + Commercial, industrial, and car park developments Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including lighting designers, civil engineers, and ITS specialists, to ensure integrated and compliant designs. Provide regular updates on project progress, risks, issues, and design changes to the line manager and project manager. Coordinate with CAD technicians to ensure drawings are delivered accurately and in line with project timelines and standards. Manage multiple design tasks effectively, ensuring outputs are clear, coordinated, and delivered to programme. Participate in project and team meetings, contributing to technical discussions and maintaining a collaborative working environment. Support and mentor junior engineers/technicians, including reviewing and checking design outputs where required. Ensure Health & Safety considerations are embedded into all design activities in line with company policies and CDM requirements. Support sustainability objectives by considering energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and future-ready infrastructure (including EV integration) within electrical designs. Qualifications + Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical). Experience Requirements + Min 4 years of hands-on experience in Electrical Design for Infrastructure Projects.
