Job Description: Chemist
- DRI I. Job Objective The Chemist is responsible for accurate sample preparation and conducting physical analysis of materials, directly reporting to and supporting the Senior Chemist to ensure consistent quality standards. II. Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs) 1. Quality Assurance & Operations
- Collect samples systematically from all plant beneficiation points.
- Inspect, verify, and collect samples of all incoming raw materials.
- Execute precise sample preparation for all incoming materials.
- Supervise loading points, collect samples, and perform standard physical analysis.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards across the laboratory area.
- Oversee the deployment of contract labor and report daily progress/issues to the Senior Chemist. 2. Planning & Inventory Control
- Plan and ensure the continuous availability of laboratory chemicals in alignment with SMFA Raw Material (RM), Work-in-Progress (WIP), and finished product testing frequencies. 3. Safety, EHS & Compliance
- Maintain a strict target of zero safety incidents and zero lost time injuries within the process quality lab and during plant sampling.
- Ensure absolute compliance with Workplace, Health, and Safety (EHS) and all relevant legal standards.
- Adhere strictly to ISO certifications and Integrated Management System (IMS) standards.
- Actively promote, implement, and monitor 5S practices throughout the process quality laboratory. 4. Training & Development
- Guide and supervise Samplers to ensure correct and standardized sample collection techniques.
- Actively participate in and complete mandatory training sessions scheduled by the HR department or Laboratory Head. IV. Job Specifications & Qualifications
- Educational Qualification: B.Sc. / B.E. / Diploma in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy.
- Relevant Experience: 3-6 year of experience (Freshers with relevant academic backgrounds are welcome). Experience in a process quality lab within a steel plant setup is highly preferred.
- Core Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of raw material grades and quality parameters.
- Good understanding of basic and advanced chemical testing procedures.
- Strong knowledge of Fe grades and Pellet quality.
- Solid grasp of IS standards for material testing.
