Job Accountabilities

Ground exploration activities include geological, geophysical, geotechnical, and hydrogeological data generation, followed by geological modeling and interpretation to support Pre-Feasibility Studies (PFS) and Feasibility Studies (FS). The role requires effective supervision of exploration activities across multiple project locations, ensuring accurate data acquisition, quality control, and day-to-day monitoring throughout the exploration and evaluation phases.

• Review existing exploration data and geological information relevant to UCG project requirements.

• Identify and evaluate data gaps required for the assessment and development of UCG project sites.

• Design and support exploration programs to generate geological, geophysical, geotechnical, environmental, and hydrogeological data required for UCG project evaluation under the guidance of senior team members.

• Conduct field geological logging, geological log photography, referencing, and digital database generation.

• Supervise drill hole surveys, drilling activities, borehole closure, and sealing operations.

• Guide ply-by-ply and overall seam sampling programs, including critical parameter analysis and validation of assay results.

• Generate and interpret structural geological data, including bedding-core axis angles, deformation signatures, cleat and joint mapping, fractures, and other structural features.

• Generate and analyze geotechnical data such as RQD, RMR, stress-strain parameters, Young’s Modulus, and rock property characterization.

• Capture hydrogeological information, aquifer characteristics, and support hydrogeological modeling for flow analysis and contour mapping.

• Supervise geophysical logging activities, data acquisition, validation, and reconciliation with borehole data.

• Support 3D seismic interpretation studies for identification of faults, structural deformations, and underground voids.

• Perform QA/QC activities, geostatistical analysis, and geological modeling.

• Develop geological domain models using Minex or equivalent software, including fault modeling and interburden/overburden characterization.

• Conduct surface surveys, drone surveys, and surface mapping with infrastructure details, including DTM contour generation.

• Prepare daily progress reports and coordinate with project teams for implementation of required modifications and corrective actions.

• Supervise geological rock characterization, resource modeling, and volumetric estimation of potential resources for UCG and New Ventures projects.

• Support subsurface planning and development activities for conventional, unconventional, and JV blocks as per business requirements.

Qualifications & Skills

• M.Sc., M.Tech., or M.Sc. Tech in Geology, Applied Geology, or Earth & Planetary Science from a recognized university, along with relevant qualified training in geological fieldwork and software applications.

• Experience in coal geology, including both field-based exploration activities and geological modeling.

• Proficiency in geological and mining software such as Minex, Vulcan, Datamine, Minescape, or equivalent platforms.

• Strong knowledge of geostatistical analysis, resource estimation, and geological modeling techniques.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in coal geological exploration and resource modeling.

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in coal/lignite projects involving geological exploration, logging, sampling, laboratory analysis and validation, QA/QC, geophysical exploration, hydrogeological studies, resource modeling, quality control, or mine planning activities.
