Job Summary The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of mechanical equipment used in the chemical manufacturing process at Divine Chemicals Company. The role includes working on reactors, dryers, blenders, pumps, gearboxes, pipelines, valves, and utility equipment to ensure uninterrupted production operations. The fitter must ensure preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, and shutdown activities are executed safely while complying with plant SOPs, safety standards, and statutory regulations applicable to chemical industries. Key Responsibilities 1. Equipment Maintenance:
- Carry out preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of plant machinery.
- Maintain and repair mechanical equipment including: Chemical Reactors and Agitators. Dryers (Tray Dryer / Rotary Dryer / Fluid Bed Dryer if applicable). Blenders and Powder Mixing Equipment. Pumps (Centrifugal, Vacuum, Gear, Diaphragm). Compressors and Vacuum Systems o Heat Exchangers and Condensers. Gearboxes, Couplings and Bearings.
- Ensure smooth operation of all equipment to avoid production downtime. 2. Piping and Utility Systems
- Install, maintain, and repair chemical process pipelines.
- Work on SS / MS / HDPE piping systems used for chemical transfer.
- Maintenance of valves including: Gate valves, Globe valves, Ball valves, Safety valves & Control valves
- Ensure leak-proof connections and proper flange tightening. 3. Installation & Fabrication
- Assist in new equipment installation and commissioning.
- Carry out fabrication, cutting, drilling, grinding, and fitting work.
- Support modification of plant equipment during process improvement.
- Work with welding teams for structural or equipment repairs. 4. Alignment & Mechanical Inspection
- Perform shaft alignment of motors and pumps.
- Check vibration, unusual noise, overheating, or mechanical faults.
- Replace worn-out components like: Bearings, Seals, Gaskets & Couplings
- Ensure proper lubrication of equipment. 5. Shutdown & Breakdown Work
- Participate in plant shutdown maintenance activities.
- Quickly identify root causes of breakdowns.
- Rectify mechanical issues to restore production operations. 6. Safety & Compliance
- Strictly follow EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) procedures.
- Work safely in areas handling hazardous chemicals and powders.
- Use mandatory PPE including: Safety helmet, Chemical gloves, Safety shoes, Face shields / goggles & Respirators where required
- Follow Permit to Work (PTW) system for hot work and confined space jobs. 7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records of: Maintenance activities, Equipment breakdown reports & Spare parts usage
- Report unsafe conditions, leaks, or equipment failure immediately to supervisors. Qualifications Education
- ITI – Fitter Trade (NCVT / SCVT) from a recognized institute.
- Experience: 2–5 years' experience in chemical / pharmaceutical / process plant preferred.
- Freshers with apprenticeship training may be considered. Required Skills
- Knowledge of chemical plant machinery and piping systems
- Ability to read engineering drawings and P&ID; diagrams
- Basic knowledge of welding, fabrication, and alignment
- Understanding of preventive maintenance systems
- Basic troubleshooting skills
- Good teamwork and communication ability Work Conditions
