Senior Design Engineer (Structural) (Tambaram)

**About Us: We are recruiting this position for our group of company Sigma Square which is a Brisbane-based structural engineering consultancy delivering projects across Australia, Canada, and the United States. Our portfolio spans hyperscale data centres, industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and residential developments — covering structural steel, reinforced concrete, and light gauge steel framing. Our Chennai office is an integral part of our delivery model, working alongside our Brisbane engineers on live projects. All design and QA are signed off in Australia, giving our India-based engineers direct exposure to international codes, real ownership over their work, and mentorship from experienced practitioners. Job Role We’re hiring a structural design engineer to join our Chennai team and support a growing pipeline of projects. This is a hands-on technical role — you’ll own design tasks end-to-end, produce stamp-ready documents, and work closely with our Brisbane engineers on QA and delivery. It suits someone who takes pride in clean calculations, enjoys technical depth, and is keen to grow within an international practice. Key Responsibilities
- Structural steel and composite floor design and verification across AS/NZS, CSA, and IBC/ASCE codes
- Light gauge steel framing design — walls, floors, and trusses
- Concrete footing design (pad, strip, pile, and raft) for low- to mid-rise buildings
- Producing design calculations, sketches, and drafting inputs; ownership of stamp-ready document sets
- Coordinating with the Brisbane team on QA, peer review, and project delivery
- Supporting client and consultant coordination where required Requirements
- B.E. or B.Tech in Civil or Structural Engineering (M.E. or M.Tech preferred)
- Minimum 3–6 years of experience in steel and concrete design
- Familiarity with at least one international code (AS/NZS, Eurocode, CSA, or AISC)
- Proficient in ETABS, STAAD, SAFE, SpaceGass, or equivalent; strong MS Excel skills essential
- Strong written English and ability to work in Australia-aligned hours Nice to Have
- Exposure to composite flooring systems or precast concrete
- Light gauge steel design experience (AS/NZS 4600 or AISI S100)
- Prior offshore consulting experience for Australian or US clients.
- Experience with steel connection design or industrial / warehouse structures About You You’re detail-oriented and take ownership of your work.
