Safety Officer (Chennai)

Job Summary We are looking for a diligent and responsible Safety Officer to ensure a safe working environment across the plant by implementing safety policies, monitoring compliance, conducting inspections, and reducing workplace risks. The role focuses on preventing accidents, promoting safety awareness, and ensuring adherence to statutory safety regulations. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of industrial safety practices and hands-on experience in manufacturing or construction environments. Key Responsibilities
- Implement and enforce safety policies, procedures, and statutory safety regulations across the workplace.
- Conduct daily safety inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments in plant and operational areas.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety laws such as Factories Act and other regulatory requirements.
- Carry out Job Safety Analysis (JSA/JHA) before critical activities.
- Monitor safe working practices and ensure proper use of PPE by all employees and contractors.
- Conduct safety induction training, toolbox talks, and awareness programs.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; perform root cause analysis and report findings.
- Maintain safety records, inspection reports, permits, and compliance documentation.
- Ensure implementation of fire safety systems, emergency preparedness, and evacuation drills.
- Monitor contractor safety compliance and permit-to-work systems.
- Support safety audits, inspections, and statutory authority visits.
- Identify unsafe conditions and unsafe acts and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in implementation of ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
- Promote a solid safety culture and employee participation in safety initiatives.
- Coordinate with EHS Manager/Engineer and other departments for risk mitigation. Required Skills & Competencies

- Strong interpersonal skills for training and awareness activities. Educational Qualification
- Diploma or Bachelors Degree in any Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, etc.).
- Additional qualification in Industrial Safety (DIPLOMA in Industrial Safety / ADIS) is preferred. Preferred Experience
- 2–7 years of experience in Safety, EHS, or HSE roles.
- Experience in manufacturing, construction, engineering, oil & gas, FMCG, automotive, or industrial environments preferred.
